Eye Doctor

Today Jack had his first eye exam since he got glasses this spring.

He's nearsighted, and while he would have needed glasses eventually, the decision was made to go ahead with them a few months ago to help slow down the progression of his intermittent exotropia (his left eye occasionally deviates outward).  It is especially noticeable when he's looking far away or when he's sick, tired, or stressed. 

It was definitely a positive report.

Firstly, his vision, with glasses, has improved 2 lines.

And secondly, his left eye deviation has become much better controlled with the glasses on.

She said that at a conversation distance, his control is very good, and it's almost non-existent.  At a distance, it's less controlled, but still improved from before.

So we are on the right track.

And the glasses are correcting enough to keep putting off surgery for awhile (I think the original goal was to at least make it to 8 years old before surgical intervention).  Without the glasses, I don't think this would have been possible since his control without them on is very poor.

Jack loves going to the doctor (any doctor really, probably because he's the center of attention I guess).

He ran right in and hopped up in the chair all by himself.  

When we first started going, he sat on my lap.  

Now, he's quite the big boy....

...sits alone, answers most questions by himself, has graduated up to letters from animals to assess his vision.  

We love Ophthamology at Riley, too.  They are SO kid friendly and oriented that it puts everyone at ease.
